Question

my daughter has been puking since the day she was born. she will be three years old next month. in fact she puked in the hospital the first day she was born. i have told her doctor right along that she pukes all the time but now she is finally doing something about it. is it true that the cillia?? will be rotted away from all the puking. My daughter is having an uppper gi in a few days, will that tell us what is wrong? please respond?

Answer

Your daughter seems to be suffering from GER (gastroesophageal reflux). This casues regurgitation of the food that the child eats. It is commonly seen in infants and is a benign condition which the child usually outgrows. If the GER is severe causing weight loss or failure to thrive, then treatment is required. No, vomiting does not rot the cilia, however, prolonged vomiting may lead to heartburn and cause damage to the foodpipe.
