Amitriptiline is used in the treatment of nocturnal enuresis in school going children after all organic causes have been ruled out. It is given in the dose of 12.5 mg HS. If the child shows a partial response with most of the nights being dry, the dose can be increased to 25 mg HS. The drug has cardiac toxicity, hence side effects need to be monitored. It should not be given for more than 3 months at a stretch. Other drugs that are used are DDAVP. Anticholinergics are not used for nocturnal enuresis.
