Question

As per defination microcephaly it is head circumferencemore than 3 sd below for that age & sex. BUT no chart including NCHS give 3sd which is actually less than 2 percentile(it is 3sd & not 3rd percentile) pls clarify. As you have correctly pointed out, there is no growth chart that shows the 3rd standard deviation including the latest NCHS charts which give upto the 3rd percentile. However, you can try the various anthropometry charts in the "TEXTBOOK OF MALFORMATIONS' by Smith in which you have charts for testicular volume, hand span, ear span and head circumference.
