Answer |
In India, Measles vaccine is given at 9 mths because the maternally acquired antibody against measles declines by 9 mths of age and babies are prone to develop measles after that period of time. Mumps and Rubella vaccine cannot be administered at nine months of age as MMR vaccine because maternally acquired antibody against mumps and rubella persist for atleast 12 months of age. Hence MMR vaccine is given at 15 months of age. This is because of non availibility of separate MR vaccine and if there is non recipt of measles vaccine at nine mths ,MMR will take care of measle part also.
