Question |
My son is almost three months old, he had BCG vaccination at one month of age. No scar is hasn't developed yet. does he need 2nd dose BCG? (2) he has Tetra Hib vaccination last month and it formed an injection abscess, but doesn't need I& D.I worry about effectiveness of htat vaccination after forming abscess ( no pus formed ). I wonder if he needs another dose of vaccination for that dose. thanks

Formation of scar is neither necessary nor is the only indication of success of BCG vaccine. However it is the only simple & convenient way of determining success of BCG vaccine. It may take 3-6 months for the scar to form. If no scar is visible at all after 6 months one needs to do Mantoux test. If negative, one should give repeat BCG
