You need to regularly follow up the child. Usually the neutrophil count start to show a rising trend within a few days of resolution of clinical disease. A serial CBC is required. Neutropenia that occurs with common childhood viral diseases develops during the first 1 to 2 days of illness and may persist for 3 to 8 days. If it persists longer a bone marrow examination may be required.
