Answer |
Viral encephalitis can be caused due to a variety of viruses. Identification of the virus can be done by serology in CSF (IgM titres) or by PCR technique. Managment consists of management of raised ICT with head elevation, mannitol and hyperventilation. Seizures may be controlled by phenytoin or valproic acid. Herpesvirus encephalitis can be treated with acyclovir. Recombinant interferon alpha is currently being assessed in a trial for Japanese B encephalitis.
