Question

Newborn aged 3 days,5th child to the non-consanginous parents,delivered by LSCS,(placentapraevia),a term baby developed upper distension with visible peristalsis on the 2nd day.passed normal meconium& urine,able to retain motherfeeds.Seen by Paediatric Surgeon on the same day,advised to continue breastfeeds ,suspected in terms of malrotation by Paed.Surgeon.distension persists till date without vomiting(25-08-05Need 2nd opinion and advise by Pae.surgeon.Thanking you.

Answer

If the distension persists and the surgeon suspects malrotation, then an ultrasound may be useful to look for dilated intestinal loops and if stong suspicion then barium studies may be required.
