Question |
Should we treat every suspected and confirmed case of malaria (uncomplicated)with oral artemesinin based combination therapy acc to WHO guidelines?
Answer |
Chloroquine is the only antimalarial that can be given on clinical suspicion of malaria. Other antimalarials are to be used for confirmed cases (lab diagnosis proven). For uncomplicated vivax, chloroquine still remains the drug of choice. For complicated vivax or for falciparum malaria, either artemisin based combination (ACT) or quinine based combination (QCT) are recommended .
