Started pediatric nephrology services at B.J .Wadia hospital for children from 1976 which has progressed to fully equipped major refferal center in western India for diagnosis and management kidney diseases in children
This includes diagnosis of complicated nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis , collagen vascular diseases ,immune mediated vasculitis by serology, immunology and histopathology (kidney biopsy with light ,immunofluorescent and electron microscopy interpreted by expert nephropathologist) complicated urinary tract infections, tubulointerstitial diseases can get benifit of imaging including ultra sonography Tc99 DTPa,Tc99 DMSA renal scans micturating cystourethrography etc by expert team and a joint consultation with pediatric surgical team.
Treatment of acute renal problems such as acute renal failure , hemolytic uremic,syndrome by peritoneal or hemodialysis with ICU backup is available
The emphasis is on parental education and counselling.Prenatal diagnosis of congenital renal malformation in high pregnancies is an important part of services rendered by a team of perinatologists at a nominal cost at Wadia group of hospital and at Jaslok hospital for the private patients.
Both the institutions carry out active training programmes for residents in pediatrics and practising pediatricians.
