Alkaline phosphatase is raised in active rickets. Extent of elevation depends upon severity of the disease. Phosphorus is usually low. Calcium is either normal (in early stages) or slightly reduced(in later stages or during therapy ). Successful therapy results in gradual reduction of alkaline phosphatase level, hence alkaline phosphatase is monitored during therapy.
