Parents play a very important role in moulding an infant into a human and are responsible for their physical and mental growth, be it a normal or a disabled child
One of the first aims of rehabilitation professional is to guide, train and ultimately make the parent the child's therapist. We believe that those with the most personal experience of disability can and should become leaders in resolving the needs of the disabled.
Rehabilitation manuals often give us guidelines/ideas of ‘what we must do' which are rather a limiting than liberating approach.
In this paper, we are trying to share and encourage the involvement, imaginative, adventurous and thoughtful approach of the parents at out institute towards their child's rehabilitation. After all, each disabled child is different and must be helped by approaches which are lovingly adapted to his/her specific needs and abilities. Having understood the basic principles of rehabilitations behind different activities, exercises and aids, these parents have made different adaptations making better use of the local resources and of the unique opportunity that exist in their own environment.
Hence, in this manner, many rehabilitation aids, exercises and activities can be done or made in ways that integrate rather than separate the child from day to day life in community.
