Case Report: A 36 week gestation female neonate delivered by a 23 years old primigravida with evidence of polyhydramnios. No previous ultrasound done, unregistered and unimmunized pregnancy.
The neonate died immediately after birth. She had a single eye in the mid- forehead, proboscis present, crown rump length 28 cm, mouth cavity present. External ears abnormal. No cleft lip or cleft palate. The upper limbs had short forearm and long tapering fingers and lower limbs grossly retroflexed at hips.

Cyclopia: Rare from of holoprosencephaly, due to failure of embryonic prosencephalon to divide the orbits of eye in two cavities, Etiology not known, incidence is 1 in 250 embryos. Nose is missing or replaced by proboscis. It may be associated with several others cardiac and renal anomalies, also with 13 or 18 chromosomes.
Toxin found in plant “Veratrum Californicum” can disrupt the embryonic forebrain. Accidental consumption during pregnancy is due to the fact that “Hellebore” a plant of same genus is used as natural treatment for vomiting, cramps and poor circulation which are common in pregnancy.
Prognosis is poor, mostly they don’t survive. Even if survives always associated with severe mental retardation, epilepsy, spastic quadriplegia, neuro-endocrine problems and failure to thrive.
