ABSTRACT

Objective
To study the patient profile of Juvenile SLE patients attending a pediatric Rheumatology clinic.

Methods and Results
Retrospective analysis of all patients with a diagnosis of SLE attending a Pediatric Rheumatology special clinic of a tertiary care teaching center of eastern India. A total of 11 cases were given a diagnosis of SLE. Most of them were aged between 8-12 years. Only one child was 3 years old. Most common involvement was joints followed by kidneys and skin. One child had a rare presentation with chorea and microphonia.

Conclusion
SLE constitutes about 4% of childhood rheumatologic cases. Their complete clinical and investigational work up is often hampered by financial constraints. More long term population based follow up studies are needed to get a clearer picture of this condition in children from this part of the world.
