Criteria for diagnosis
Hyperglycemia: blood glucose > 200 mg/dl (11.1 mmol/L)
Metabolic acidosis: pH < 7.3; serum bicarbonate < 15 mmol/L
Ketosis: Ketonemia > 3 mmol/l, ketonuria > 2+
