KWASHIORKAR. It means red boy. The name comes from the odd reddish orange color of the hair, as well as from the skin rash. It is a high mortality deficiency state. The muscles are poorly developed & lack tone. Edema is usually severe. Potbelly, anorexia & diarrhea are common . Crazy pavement dermatosis and flaky paint skin changes are common.
