A Baby has vaccination of DPT and OPV at 6 weeks of age. He is almost 8 weeks. Can I give HIB vaccine alone at 8 weeks? If so, how to continue further doses together with DPT or to be given separately? Is there any difference in developing immunity if I give DPT at 6-10-14 weeks and HIB at 8-12-16weeks. With thanks.

Question Category : Immunization
Respected Sir/Madam, Thanks for taking out time to solve my query. I am grateful to you. but I wanted to share the practical problem we faced. newborns on 15 may received monovalent vaccine. babies born on subsequent days over the following week did not receive anything as they were not suppose to receive routine dose. In our hospital the newborn stay in case of prim mother is 6-7 days. Now we called all these babies again after discharge before they complete 2 weeks of life to administer 0 dose polio. Hence I wanted to know the policy to be adopted for this type of practical problem in the newborns. I feel keeping the monovalent vials (depending on the number of deliveries)in the hospital sounds to be a better option. Please opine. thanking you. with regards Dr. Sangeeta Sawant.

If a patient has acquired paralysis of poliomyelitis and he wasn't given a polio-vaccine, what should we do now? Should we give him OPV or not?
Question Category : Immunization
Respected Sir/ madam, during the recent pulse polio drive in Mumbai, the monovalent vaccine was used. no child was suppose to receive the trivalent vaccine in the subsequent week as they would be covered with trivalent vaccine on house to house survey. The newborns were also to receive the monovalent vaccine. I have a query whether giving them a trivalent vaccine is a better option. In a hospital setting what should be done for those babies born after 15 may and before 21 may as they are not suppose to receive trivalent OPV. they are also less likely to be covered in house to house visit due to hospital stay. Please let me know. with regards Dr. Sangeeta Sawant.
