Question
An 11 years old patient admitted in our hospital clinical looks like as tuberculosis meningitis. She was started on AKT now her ANA as well as anti dsDNA report is positive & she is announced as a patient of SLE. Is this autoimmune disease sequel of TB-M or not??? and now what is the further treatment protocol??? thanking you Dr. Qudsiya.
Answer
For diagnosis of SLE, at least 4 of the 11 criteria need to be fulfilled. ANA and dsDNA are two of the criteria. With a CNS involvement, 3 criteria would be fulfilled. Do a C3, rule out renal involvement, hematological, skin and serosal involvement. If she anything positive in that it would be SLE.
ANA may be falsely positive with Anti-tuberculous drugs but dsDNa is usually specific for SLE.
