Retinoids are derivates of vitamin A that control cell growth, differentiation and apoptosis of several cell types and have a probable role in pathogenesis of different tumors. Laboratory evidence suggested that vitamin A deficiency causes systemic expansion in myeloid cells and could have a role in pathogenesis of hematological neoplasms, however, no epidemiological data support this observation.
