Ganthic index is the relation between the basialveolar (basion to alveolar point) and basinasal (basion to nasion) lengths: (basialveolar length A- 100)/basinasal length; the result indicates the degree of projection of the maxilla or upper jaw. It has been used to differentiate between acromegaly and cerebral gigantism. A balanced translocation is a condition in which the correct number of chromosomes are present, but two pieces of chromosomal material have switched places. The individual who has a balanced translocation usually appears completely normal and healthy, but when a carrier attempts to have children, that is when problems are encountered. Those who have a balanced translocation are plagued by infertility, repeated miscarriages, and their offspring are at an increased risk for birth defects and chromosomal abnormalities. The risk of abnormal offspring is approximately 10 to 15 percent, regardless of which parent has the balanced translocation. In hypotonic CP, the lesion is UMN as well as in the cerebellum. This leads to hypotonia in the initial stages and once the pyramidals become the predominant involved, it evolves into hypertonic CP. Back to All Questions
