Question |
How knee chest positioning helps in managing cyanotic spell in TOF? What is the developmental anomaly of heart in TOF?
|
|
Answer |
Children with TOF typically are born with 4 abnormalities of the heart:
Obstruction of the right ventricular outflow tract Ventricular septal defect-VSD Enlargement of the right ventricle Over-riding of the ventricular septum by the aorta Knee-to-chest position is advised in a cyanotic spell to increase peripheral vascular resistance. This reduces the right-to-left shunting at the VSD, resulting in diminished pulmonary blood flow.
