Question

hello sir , i have some queries if u can give me the answers for these i will be thankful to you. 1) classification of mental retardation on the basis of rehabiltation 2) pyuria in female child 3) complications of thalasemia major

Answer

Mental retardation: Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV)
American Psychiatric Association, 1994

Borderline Intellectual Functioning: IQ 71-84
Mild Mental Retardation: IQ 50-55 to approximately 70
Moderate Retardation: IQ 35-40 to 50-55
Severe Mental Retardation: IQ 20-25 to 35-40
Profound Mental Retardation: IQ below 20 or 25
The terms Educable Mentally Retarded and Trainable Mentally Retarded used in special education are roughly equivalent to DSM classifications for mild and moderate mental retardation, respectively.

For isolated pyuria, one needs to confirm the urinary tract infection by doing a urine culture. Only if culture is positive in significant colonies, then one must go ahead and treat the UTI. If only pyuria, do a repeat urine examination.

Complications of thalasemmia:
- Iron overload state: Hepatitis, Cardiomyopathy, Thyroid and Parathyroid problems, Hyperpigmentation of skin, Diabetes Mellitus, Growth failure
- Transfusion related problems: Infections (Heaptitis B,C and HIV with CMV)
