Question
Could IBS present with bloody diarrhea and tenesmus sometimes....? General stool exam. reveal E.histolytica.... trophozoites & cysts. Is there any relation between amebiasis and IBS. If the general condition of the patient is very good could it is a mild form of inflammatory bowel disease. What is your opinion?
Answer
If the stool has shown E histolytica, one should treat the patient for the same. If after eradication of this infection, bloody diarrhea persists then other causes of diarrhea with blood in stools should be ruled out.
