Question

dear sir/mam, In a routine stool examination cysts of Giardia Lambia were found in my Pt.baby mini 8yrs/F. What is the drug of choice, its dosage and duration of treatment.

Answer

You may need to give metronidazole in dose of 10mg/kg/dose tds for 7 days to cleat the trophozoites. For the cysts, diloxanide furoate may be needed. New drug now used is nitazoxanide.
