Question
I always refuse to feed gutti and gripe water to baby. am I right or wrong and my parents always co-relate diarrhea with dentition. How should one convince them? What to tell them?
Answer
Gutti has no role in babies. However gripe water contains "SUVA" which is a good carminative for the baby. Also the little amount of alcohol in the gripe water helps to soothe the pain of a colic.
Regarding diarrhea due to dentition, one needs to emphasize on regular cleaning of gums with a wet clean cloth just as teeth are brushed. This takes care of oral hygiene and prevents infection.
