Question |
What is the relation between dengue fever and infants? |
|
Question |
Usually infants are protected from dengue fever due to the presence of maternal antibodies. Also dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is seen in children following second exposure to dengue due to presence of antibodies due to previous infection. Thus, maternal dengue antibodies play a dual role by first protecting and later increasing the risk of development of dengue hemorrhagic fever/dengue shock syndrome in infants.
