Question
A one years old female child presented with "loose body" and no other complaints milestones ok only complaint was bowing of legs and difficulty in standing straight and holding tight. Diagnosis benign congenital hypotonia syndrome. what advise, precautions, exercises and education to mother would be right? What do we expect mentally in the child is she to be treated as a normal child?
Answer
Benign congenital hypotonia is a nonprogressive hypotonia of unknown etiology. The child may have increased joint mobility with chances of joint dislocations. The eye sight may be poor due to weak ocular muscles. The mental development is usually normal and they outgrow the hypotonia by the end of 1st decade. The prognosis is essentially good. They may have some residual problems such as inability to stand for a longer time later in life.
