Question |
Till what post natal age, in a preterm neonate, is Ibugesic/Indomethacin effective for closure ofPDA? How long should one wait to see the response of the above drugs after the recomended three doses?

Answer |
In a preterm child, there have been reports of indomethacin causing closure of PDA even at 7-8 months of age. One may see closure of PDA with indomethacin/ibugesic within 24-48 hours. If not there, one may try other drugs. However, they may not work in a full term child.
