Question

As a paramedic, I recently was called for a pedi patient with CHF. What vasodilator and or treatment is appropriate for a 5 year old with CHF? Nitro is contraindicated in pediatrics, correct?Thanks

Answer

Congestive cardiac failure in children is treated with oxygen, diuretics such as furosemide and ionotropic supporst such as dobutamine. Further drugs would depend on the cause of CHF. Also make sure that the child receives 2/3rd of maintainence fluids required.
