Can paracetamol be given safely in viral hepatitis/chronic liver disease for control of fever.our seniors advice mefanamic acid in place of it.does mefanamic acid has any specific advantage over paracetamol here.

Answer
Paracetamol has predictable hepatotoxicity and affects the liver in a dose-dependent manner. In patients with chronic liver disease who have pain symptoms or fever, paracetamol can be used safely not exceeding when given within the therapeutic dose.
