Question
While giving Inj. Penidure/Pencom(benzathine Penicillin) I/M for prevention of recurrence of Rheumatic fever ,the needle often gets blocked and the whole of solution can not be injected due to its high density. Even recommended amount of distilled water and using 22 Gauge needle fails to solve the problem. What is your experience and suggestion about this practical problem? sincerely Dr. J.S. CHUGH.
Answer
It is due to clogging of the penicillin sediment in the needle. Make sure to shake the vial properly so that no sediment remains. If it persists, one may divide and give penicillin at 2 different sites.
