Question
Aspirin (in anti inflammatory doses) is contraindicated in G6PD deficiency. So what is the alternative to use in patients with G6PD deficiency and having rheumatic fever or Kawasaki disease if aspirin not to be used?
Answer
There are very few case reports of use of aspirin in rheumatic fever in a patient with G6PD deficiency. However one must not use aspirin in a patient with G6PD deficiency. In Kawasaki disease one may use IVIG during the acute phase and dipyridamole for anti platelet activity. For rheumatic fever, steroids may be used.
