Question
How to differentiate from clinical signs and symptoms, hypo, hyper or normonatremia dehydrated in diarrhea's patient without checking for their electrolyte status, and how to correct it? What kind of infuse should we use?
Answer
A simple clinical diagnosis:

Isonatremic dehydration - Degree of dehydration is equivalent to the amount of losses.

Hyponatermic dehydration - Degree of dehydration is more than the amount of losses.

Hypernatremic dehydration - Degree of dehydration is less than the amount of losses.

For isonatremic dehydration - amount of sodium required is 5-6meq/l

For hyponatremic dehydration - sodium required is 8-10meq/l

For hypernatremic dehydration - sodium required is 2-4meq/l.
