Why Familial fatal Insomnia,Gerstman Straussler sheinker syndrome ,dementia patients should not donate blood?

Answer
Human prion diseases or transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE) are rare transmissible diseases affecting the central nervous system. Genetic TSE are seen with Gerstmann-Straussler-Scheinker and Fatal Familial Insomnia. Hence blood donation is contraindicated as they may be transmitted through blood donation.
