Retrognathia can lead to airway obstruction due to glossoptosis (posteroinferior displacement of the tongue) which results in oropharyngeal obstruction. Older children with retrognathia (Treacher Collins) and snoring with obstructive symptoms may benefit from tonsillectomy.
