Question
Which one is rational and easy five(chiron)vaccine or hiberix-+ tritanrix hb vaccine? In tritanrix-hb+hiberix we have to re constitute but in easy five we can give it directly. From aseptic part of view which one is logical? Is priorix vaccine(mmr) superior than conventional mmr vaccines which we were previously using?
Answer
1) Both Easy five and the reconstitution of Tritanrix-HB with Hiberix are equally good and effective. There is nothing to choose between the two from the points of view of either immunological advantage or efficacy of the combination. However it is important to realize that one should not and can not mix ant DPT/Hep. B/Hib vaccines extemporaneously as it is not allowed under the rules and one should mix only those vaccines that are allowed to be used by mixing under the license. Such license is given only after studies done have proved that the vaccines under consideration are satisfactorily efficacious when mixed as when given separately.

2) All the MMR vaccines available in our country and approved by the authorities are equally god, efficacious and safe. Theoretically the JL strain and its derivative strains of Mumps vaccine have shown the least chances of aseptic meningitis in the western literature. However this so called vaccine induced aseptic meningitis is as such rare and is usually self limiting without any long term complications and is clinically very mild. West though has different priorities, intolerance to even the rarest side effect and can afford the expensive vaccine; hence the west has virtually switched to the JL vaccine. Whereas countries like ours we can ill-afford to mass vaccinate children using the expensive vaccine.
