Question
Post DPT vaccination can we apply pain relieving ointment like diclonac at site to give temporary relief? What is role of thrmbophobe ointment for relieving swelling of leg? does it really work. Can we give Ibugesic instead of paracetamol orally for relieving fever and pain post vaccination?
Answer
There is no role of local application of pain relieving agents in post DPT injection. One or two doses of paracetamol is the best analgesic and antipyretic recommended and it works wonders. In the absence of enough data on safety of other non steroidal anti inflammatory agents in infants,it is better to avoid these drugs.
