Question
My 14 months old girl has relapse of UTI with E.coli & klebsiella under prophylaxy with Cephalexin. Sonographic and conventional VCUG study was normal except Cystitis. Her BW is 9 kg .Her bith W was 3160 g. She can not tolerate nitrofurantoin. Would You please consult me, how I can treat her UTI. Many Thanks R. Bekhradi,GP.
Answer
Two infections in a culture report may suggest false reports or contamination. Confirm the culture by a properly collected urine sample. Also try and get the colony count and the sensitivity pattern. A colony count of more than 100000 on a clean catch mid stream sample is significant. A colony count less than that may not warrant infection.
