Question
Dear sir, a 4 year old male child present with delayed walking. Now he can sit unaided, mentation is normal. He can walk with help. Bulk muscle of the lower limbs are small & atrophic, reflexes are exaggerated. He was born prematurely admitted in the premature unit for 3 days. How can one help him.....?
Answer
Rule out myopathy, neuropathy and muscular dystrophy. Get his muscle charting done to find out which muscles are weak and then maybe an EMG, NCV would help to differentiate between myopathy and neuropathy. Accordingly a muscle biopsy or nerve biopsy would be required.
In the meantime, continue with physiotherapy.
