Question
Is it possible that in LMN lesions say NM Junction lesions or myopathies, Deep tendon reflexes are brisk? The reason why I am asking this is recently we had a 6yr old child presenting with weakness, generalised wasting, hypotonia, exaggerated lordosis, waddling gait all fitting into myopathy. But her deep tendon reflexes were brisk except that knee jerk was absent. please give ur comments.
Answer
It is not possible for myopathy to have brisk reflexes except if the myopathy is due to cause that is also affecting the central nervous system such as metabolic myopathies. Look for a central cause of the weakness.
