Children restricted to clear fluid diets for more than 48 hours may have green, watery bowel movements called starvation stools.

Jaundice is more common in Thalassemia Major as compared to intermedia.

A child with thalassemia needs regular screening for S.Ferritin, liver enzymes, X ray chest, 2D Echo, Hepatitis B and C, HIV screening. Also he needs evaluation for diabetes mellitus, parathyroid and thyroid involvement after 1st decade of life.
