1 year old child with complaints of Fever since 5-6 days Excessive crying --5 days, Coryza --10 days, on examination aphtous ulcers on both side of pharynx. No other abnormal findings on examination Treatment Given--cefpodem since 5 days No response to fever on 5th day My diagnosis-- 1. Viral Pharyngitis 2. cefpodem resistant streptococcal pharyngitis 3. PAFPA No Investigations done Please suggest me other possibilities Further guidelines for investigations.
Answer
Rule out tonsillitis. A throat swab would be needed. Change antibiotic to a good gram positive coverage.
