Answer |

Zinc supplementation may be given for treatment of Wilson's disease. Dose - 50 mg tid p.o. Zinc salts may be substituted as a maintenance therapy after adequate decoppering has been achieved, but may be the treatment of choice in selected asymptomatic Wilson's disease patients. ANy zinc salt may be used. Monitor urine copper levels. Serial decrease in urine copper will suggest adequate chelation. A higher copper content as compared to previous may suggest non-compliance or just resumption of drugs prior to coming to the clinic.
