I examined a neonate 20 days old weight.3.6kg coming from poor family who had plenty of maggots actively oozing from the umbilicus and prepuce of uncircumcised penis. The periumblical area and glance of penis was inflamed. The baby was otherwise active, feeding well and passing urine normally. The area was cleaned and treated with few drops of formaline solution. Within hour maggots became inactive. After cleaning again antibiotic ointment fusidic acid was applied. Systematic antibiotic was also started. I have earlier seen maggots in nose, ear and wounds but maggots in the umbilicus and under prepuce was seen first time by me. How to manage such a case? Check Out the Answer

Our adopted son who turned 3 back in Jan is very small and under weight (23 lbs) and he has not gained any weight since arrived from India almost 1 year ago. Last year when our son arrived here after a few weeks he started getting diarrhea and stools tests showed Hymenolepsis Nana & Giardia Lambia. We have gone through 8 or 9 rounds of various medicines including Nitazoxanide, Metronidazole (Flagy), Combantrin, Praziquantel. Last Nov. our son started improving and getting normal stools although some but not all the stool tests still came positive for the above to diseases. This March his diarrhea has returned on and off and the last stool tests showed a positive results for both Hymenolepsis Nana & Giardia Lambia again. I don't know what to do and he is not growing - please help? Check Out the Answer
