What is Colic?
Colic is unexplained excessive crying seen in young infants especially between 3 weeks to 4 months of age. It is predominantly seen in late afternoon or in evening and baby has lot of rumbling in stomach with belching. In between the crying spells, the baby is fine.

What should one do for colic?
Ensure that you burp your baby adequately after each feed. Also remember, do not feed your baby every time he cries as baby may cry due to other causes such as soiled diaper, is feeling hot or cold or baby just needs to cuddled.
       If the baby is having lot of bloating with abdominal distension, you can massage the lower part of stomach. Certain agents such as carminatives and gripe water may also be useful to decrease the amount of gas. Also if you are breastfeeding your child, you must avoid eating spicy and oily food.
       Do not worry about the crying as most babies outgrow this condition by 5-6 months of age.
