ALLERGIC DERMATITIS
What are the various skin allergies?
What is urticaria and angioedema?
It is an itchy eruption of skin that occurs in association with hereditary predisposition to allergies. It usually starts in children less than 2 years of age and commonly affects skin creases such as elbows, back of knees, buttocks and cheeks. In addition children have a dry skin.
Contact dermatitis means irritation of skin caused by contact with some substances. In the hands, it could be due to detergents, soaps, metals, ointments, ghee, vegetables. In the face it could be due to cosmetics. Metals, deodorants, chemicals, leather can especially lead to contact dermatitis.
Avoiding the allergen is the best prevention technique. For the eczema, your doctor will prescribe antihistamines. In severe cases, steroid creams will be prescribed. (See Allergies).

Tips for preventing exposure to Allergens:
Clean all filters, air conditioner filters and duct filters every 3-4 months at home, workplace and in car.
Replace Venetian blinds with roll down shades.
Avoid keeping pets.
