Dear Subscriber:
New features on www.pediatriconcall.com for this month:
EXPERT'S OPINION:

Query: My 5months 12 days old daughter is suffering from severe cough cold from last three days. Her body weight is 9 KG. She has got fever on the first day then we with doctors advice she is given Augmentin duo 2.5 ML twice daily for 7 days and mucolite 10 drops twice daily. Her fever has subsided but now her stool frequency has increased. Earlier she used to pass stool once in a day. But since the medication has started she passes stool almost 15 times in daytime {amount is less}, but not in night. Everytime she sneezes, passes amount of stool. Is it normal? Is any chance of dehydration to occur? She passes 16-29 times urine per day.

Answer: The diarrhea may be related to the infection or may be due to the antibiotic. Consult your doctor for the same as change in medicines may be required. Also since the child is passing stools almost 15 times a day, ORS may be required though chances of dehydration are less since the stools are small quantity and not watery and the child is passing adequate urine.
