NUTRITION QUIZ

A mother brought her 4 years old girl who has to be forced to eat else she can remain hungry throughout the day. Mother wants some “tonic” to improve her appetite.
On further inquiring, it is found, that the child predominantly eats biscuits, wafers, and chocolates throughout the day.

Does this child really have poor appetite? Why is this child not eating regular food? What nutritional problem could this child have?

EXPERT'S OPINION:

Query: My Son is 3 years old. He has constipation problem when he started having regular foods. He doesn't like fruits or vegetables and doesn't want to try also. So I took him to doctor and she gave us Cremaffin for his constipation problem. His stool is very hard and he cries so much if Idont give him this syrup. Sometimes blood comes. So everyday I am giving 10ml in the morning and night. Is it ok if I give him continuously? Any side effects? Please advice me

Answer:
Your son has severe constipation, and one of the most important reason is his diet. He does not want to eat vegetables etc . is a poor excuse, keep him hungry with no other options, he will begin to eat everything, there are no short cuts. Just giving Cremaffin is not solving your problem, it is delaying therapy. You need to see a Pediatric Surgeon and have a detailed talk and advice on diet and drugs , with or without enemas, potty training etc. Regards
