EXPERT’S OPINION:
Query: My Daughter is 7 months 15 days and have already got vaccination for Measeles on 07 Jun, 2006 Will there be any side effect or we should have wait for some time.?? and as per our doctor next vaccination is due on Nov 25, 2006 for chicken pox. Please advise
Answer: Ideally measles vaccine is given at 9 months of age. This is because early vaccine may not be taken up as antibodies from the mother may interfere with the take up. By 9 months of age, these antibodies taper off and hence vaccine take up is good. However in case of epidemics, measles vaccine can be given as early as 6 months of age. However a repeat vaccine is then recommended at 15 months of age by taking the MMR vaccine.
