EXPERT’S OPINION:
Query: I am currently 7 months pregnant and have a low lying placenta and baby’s left kidney has 18 ml of fluid. It started off with 7ml of fluid at 20 weeks scan but in six weeks has nearly tripled. Placenta is not moving with cervix so what will happen.

Answer: : A low lying placenta would not cause any problem to the baby. If the placenta does not shift up and uncover the cervix, you may have to deliver with a caesarean section. Regarding fluid in the baby's kidney, a follow up USG would be required after 3 days after birth to check as to how large is the kidney. If it is too large, a renal scan to look for obstruction would be required. If it is small amount, the baby will have to be followed up for a period of time and see if it resolves on its own or requires intervention.
